  • Where were you nine years ago today?

    emilyvgordon:

Nine years ago today I was in a medically-induced coma, incredibly sick and fighting for my life. I went from a doctor’s office to an ambulance to a hospital, and I was under before I could do anything more than call my boyfriend.

I’m doing great now, but every year during the just-over-a-week that I was in a coma, I take a moment to acknowledge how motherfucking precious life is. Because it is. Any of this could go away. We aren’t guaranteed shit. I could have left this earth without seeing Paris, or meeting my best friend’s daughter, or seeing Deadpool. (I’ve done all that since) But the knowledge that all this is fleeting shouldn’t scare us. It should imbue us with passion and a need for satisfaction and a desire to live a variety of days, from “squeeze the marrow out of every bone of every moment” to “Oh is there an America’s Next Top Model marathon on?”.

Join me in acknowledging how amazing it is that you are here, now, today, despite all the bullshit that’s happening in the world and even in your life. Not everyone has made it this far. Take the gift that’s been given to you. Happy Comaversary to us all.

Did you know nautilus populations tend to be about 75 percent male and 25 percent female? Scientists aren’t sure why!

Telling male and female nautiluses apart is tricky—the only way to know for sure is through dissection. If you’re just using your eyes, the cephalopod’s size can be a clue, as males tend to get larger than females.
